Emergency Incident Updates

There are a number of active wildfires across the landscape in the FVRD electoral areas. Wildfires are a natural part of the environment and in most cases do not pose threat to people or property.

Area B – Coquihalla Lakes Area - Mine Creek Wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service has classified this as a wildfire of note and has recommended evacuation alerts, orders, and road closures in surrounding areas by the Fraser Valley Regional District, Thompson-Nicola Regional District, and the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen. The FVRD has declared a State of Local Emergency and issued an evacuation order for two properties along the northeastern portion of Electoral Area B in the Coquihalla Lakes area.

The FVRD EOC is active and working in collaboration with lead authorities (BC Wildfire Service, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, and other key allies on the landscape including First Nations and the team within Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment.

The fire behavior has grown from low rank low threat smoldering to high threat high growth activity and is heavily influenced by the weather. A fall-like, wet pattern is predicted to start early next week when more significant rainfall is expected in some areas of the Coastal Fire Centre. BC Wildfire Service is the agency responsible for wildfires throughout FVRD. Please direct any questions regarding BCWS
