New Outhouse at Mount Cheam Trailhead

We are excited to announce the installation of a Urine Diversion Toilet at the Mount Cheam trailhead in partnership with Rec Sites and Trails BC.

Managing human waste in our beautiful parks and backcountry is challenging. This waterless toilet diverts urine away from solid waste. Since urine is sterile and has a high nutrient value it can be safely dispersed into the surroundings to be used by plants and micro-organisms in the soil. The remaining solid waste can then be decomposed by earthworms and other soil organisms.

This waste diversion system provides an ecologically sound approach to waste management.
