EOC Update And Important Information For Residents

It has been just over a month since the first Atmospheric River event on Nov 14 which led to the activation of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). In that time, 30% of FVRD’s 104 employees were called to don EOC vests and respond to an emergency that impacted all Electoral Areas.

FVRD has now reduced the activation level of its Emergency Operations Centre and many staff have returned to their regular work assignments. The EOC will maintain Level 1 operations under the oversight of the Director of Emergency Management. We continue to monitor the situation and are prepared to ramp up the EOC if circumstances change.


There are five evacuation orders and two alerts which remain active. It is hoped with receding waters, reduced slope saturation and colder temperatures most of these will be rescinded by the end of the week. Our thoughts are with the many families who were and continue to be impacted by this emergency.

We are grateful for the continuing assistance of the RCMP, our Fire Chiefs, Emergency Management BC, Provincial ministries and agencies. Thanks as well to the non-government agencies like Red Cross, Team Rubicon Canada and others who are supporting our residents through this challenging time.

Reporting Non-Emergency Incidents
During the holiday break, December 27 to January 3, 2022, the public inquiry line (778) 704-0400 will remain active and any calls will be forwarded to staff for follow-up. If the situation is a matter of imminent life safety please call 911 immediately and get to safety.

New Year and Recovery Phase
By the beginning of January 2022, the EOC will ramp up again for the recovery phase. There are a number of emergency-related construction and engineering projects for this phase totalling in excess of $3,100,000, and many other environmental projects that require escalation to the appropriate Provincial Ministries and agencies for road works and environmental projects.

Canadian Red Cross providing Emergency Support Services

At the request of Emergency Management BC (EMBC), the Canadian Red Cross is providing Emergency Support Services (ESS) to eligible households impacted by flooding.

What to do:

The first step to access this financial assistance is to register with the Canadian Red Cross by calling 1-800-863-6582, between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm PST.

Register in-person at Fraser Valley Trade and Exhibition Centre (TRADEX), 1190 Cornell St, 11am to 7pm daily or Chilliwack Neighbourhood learning centre, 46361 Yale Road. 9:30am to 6pm daily. . The centre is open daily from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

If you are registering with the Canadian Red Cross or verifying your registration information, please ensure you bring the correct verification ID.

Please note: all Red Cross reception centres will be closed on December 24, 25, 26 and 31, 2021 and January 1, 2022.
