Rural Residents and Businesses Encouraged to Take Internet Speed Test
June 8, 2021
The FVRD and the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) are asking rural residents and businesses to test their internet speeds. Federal data regarding internet speeds may not accurately reflect broad speeds experienced in homes, businesses or elsewhere.
By performing the speed test, FVRD residents, businesses and community stakeholders can help ensure the correct data for Internet speed is recorded. The data is important because it’s used to determine eligibility for funding programs to improve connectivity service.
The speed test can be accessed at this website.
Performing the speed test is a key step in identifying which communities have inconsistencies between internet speeds that should be available versus actual speeds.
This is an important issue, as access to high-speed Internet services improves access to healthcare, education, culture, public safety and economic activity.
The more speed tests completed from different locations across the region, the more accurate the broadband Internet speed data will be.
