Septic Sense Awareness Week
September 20, 2021
Do you have Septic Sense?
September 20 to 24 is Septic Awareness Week, and the Western Canada Onsite Wastewater Management Association (WCOWMA) and the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) urge you to consider both what goes down the drain, and how you maintain your septic system. The purpose of this initiative is to promote proper operation and maintenance of onsite wastewater systems.
Properly designed and maintained wastewater treatment systems effectively reduce or eliminate most human health or environmental threats posed by pollutants in household wastewater. However, they require regular maintenance or they can fail. Failing systems are expensive to repair or replace, and poor maintenance is often the culprit. Systems need to be monitored to ensure that they work properly throughout their service lives. Learn more at fvrd.ca/septic.
Throughout Septic Awareness Week, the WCOWMA and the FVRD will share information on the importance of maintaining septic systems along with tips for operation on their social media channels.
