FVRD Launches FireSmart Home Partners Program
April 19, 2023
Today, the FVRD announced the launch of the FireSmart Home Partners Program. The program is designed to engage homeowners in voluntary wildfire mitigation activities by offering a free professional home assessment with property-specific recommendations for electoral area residents. By completing the FireSmart assessment recommendations, homeowners may be eligible for a rebate of up to $1000 and may also receive a mitigation certificate from the FireSmartBC Home Partners program.
“The FVRD is proud to offer the FireSmart Home Partners Program to our electoral area residents,” said Jason Lum, FVRD Board Chair. “We hope homeowners will take advantage of the opportunity to work with our Wildfire Mitigation Specialist and take action to reduce wildfire risks to their home and property,” he said.
The assessment process evaluates a home and property for wildfire exposure, while engaging the homeowner in their unique risk and ways to reduce it. The FireSmart Home Partners Program is a collaboration between FireSmart Canada, FireSmart BC, provincial governments, local governments, Indigenous communities, the private sector and homeowners in Canada.
Electoral area residents who are interested in scheduling their free assessment can visit fvrd.ca/firesmart or email our Wildfire Mitigation Specialist at firesmart@fvrd.ca to get started.
Residents who take steps to reduce fire risks on their properties, provide a better opportunity for firefighters to defend the community in the event of a wildfire. Let’s get FireSmart! Visit fvrd.ca/firesmart to learn more.
